4 Star Bed & Breakfast

B&B in Wallingford, Oxfordshire

Marsh House is a large family home set in a private road providing ample parking in a peaceful, rural setting. We provide a warm welcome to our guests as a family run business which is also our home. We have a maximum of up to 5 guests at a time so we can give them our personal attention. We strive to keep Marsh House as a family home rather than a larger more impersonal guest house.

Shillingford is a small village tucked in between Warborough and Wallingford.  We are two minutes from the River Thames and our garden backs onto the Thames Path, making us ideally positioned for river and country walks.

We have recently had some changes made to Marsh House, a new front hall and front door and an extra large utility room as well as new windows throughout the front of the house.  In May we plan to have the outside rendered to further improve the outside of the house.

We have three bedrooms all en suite, a single room, double and a twin room which can also be made into a large super king size bed for longer stays. All bedrooms have garden views giving a feeling of peace and tranquility aiding a good night's sleep. Each bedroom as well as having an en suite bathroom, has a flat screen television, a tea and coffee tray and free internet.

Breakfast is served by patio doors overlooking the colourful garden and pots planted with seasonal flowers. Breakfast consists of a full English breakfast, or an alternative continental breakfast of cereals, toast, yoghurt and fruit. We always serve freshly made cafetiere coffee and we have an expresso machine to offer smaller shots of seriously delicious coffee. We also have a substantial choice of teas including fruit and herbal teas

About Wallingford

Marsh House is conveniently accessible  from the M40, M4, and A34.It is situated in a private residental road off the A4074 between Oxford and Henley. Many guests base themselves here for a holiday to do day trips around Oxfordshire.  Our garden backs onto the Thames Path making it a popular stop for walkers.  The River Thames is only 300 yards away and you can hire boats from Benson  Marina which is a walk away along the Thames Path or a 5 minute drive.  The nearby Waterfront Cafe is a very popular stopping place for food and drink.

The Earth Trust Organisation has stunning panoramic views over the Wittenham Clumps with a history of their Roman, Bronze and Iron Age past.  It holds walks and talks and seasonal activities such as lambing.

We are surrounded by the Midsomer Murder television program locations and we have had guests base themselves here to enjoy all that the Midsomer Tours have to offer.

There are many other attractions to see for one-day visits including Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Henley and National Trust houses and gardens.  For the more adventurous it is possible to take the frequently run bus 'The Oxford Tube' from Oxford to London for a one day visit.  There are numerous typically beautiful Oxfordshire villages within a short car's ride of Shillingford, including Dorchester-on-Thames which boasts one of the oldest public houses, The George, in the country.

The Springs Golf Club is a 10 minute drive away and  offers an 18-hole golf course to non-member players and as we are golfers we can advise you as to when the best time to book a tee would be! There are local tennis courts and fishing is available on the River Thames with a local fishing licence.

Many railway enthusiasts come to the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway  line  which holds various family events during the year.

Our local attractions include Dorchester-on-Thames,  site of an early medieval monastery where the  magnificent Abbey remains. Wallingford, is a small market town on the banks of the River Thames which boasts 'The Wallingford Story' in its museum which is housed in a medieval house in the High Street. Henley, home to the famous annual 'Henley Regatta' can be reached by car or the local bus and it is definitely worth a visit to this beautiful town and the museum will give you all the history of  Henley and the Regatta.  Oxford is obviously the main attraction and a guided tour is highly recommended,  not only for their invaluable information,  but also as some of the guides can get you to places normally closed to visitors.

On a much broader scale our guests have enjoyed visits to Windsor with its famous Castle, Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle and Waddesdon Manor, home of the Rothschild family. Children enjoy visits to Legoland in Windsor and the fascinating model village of Beconscot.

Sara S Willis, Utah, United States

“Nice quiet location, beautiful setting very near the Thames River. Good breakfast. Accommodating hosts. There is a bus stop nearby but it would probably be helpful to have a car or bicycle."

Paul Willetts - Fakenham, United Kingdom

“ Excellent - From our first arrival, we were made welcome and very comfortable. A beautiful location"

Barbara Hendy - Parcent, Spain

“It's a beautiful house and my single room had everything I needed, and more, lots of nice little touches. Shower gel, shampoo etc all in the room. The service from Jenny was very good, the breakfast was superb. For the standard of the room I thought the price was very good. Would definitely stay here again."
